“Wrench attack”: Revolut phished, exposing users’ passports, selfies, and other sensitive data to scam group
A fintech company, Revolut, was reportedly phished, resulting in the disclosure of users’ passports, selfies, and other sensitive data to a scam group. The group managed to obtain an email address using a government agency’s domain and then sent Revolut an information request asking it to hand over complete records for specific users, including bank transaction records. The customers were involved in cryptocurrency investments, and the group’s ultimate objective may have been a wrench attack. A wrench attack refers to coercing victims into unlocking cryptocurrency wallets or transferring digital assets through kidnapping, assault, or even death threats.
